Anti-CAA protests in Uttar Pradesh: Priyanka Gandhi Slams BJP over Plight of Varanasi Kid
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress general secretary recently slammed the BJP government over the plight of fourteen month-old kid whose parents were arrested for taking part in an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA protest challenging the prohibitory orders, saying that it is the moral responsibility of the government to allow the child's mother to go home.
On 19th December 2020, people gathered at Beniya Bagh area of Varanasi, PM Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha constituency, in order to protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act, defying section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) imposed by the police.
Champak's parents, activists Ekta and Ravi Shankar, who run an Non-Government Organization, Climate Agenda, were amongst those who were arrested in connection with the protest.
Priyanka Gandhi in a tweet said, "To suppress civil demonstrations, BJP govt has shown such inhumanity & separated a small child from her parents".
The kid's health has deteriorated, but there has been no change in BJP government's intentions, said Congress general secretary.
She added that "It is the moral duty of this government to allow the innocent mother of this child to go home".
